With the closure of Visceral, the studio engaged on EA’s single player-only Star Wars sport, there have been questions on the way forward for single participant video games. Microsoft’s head of publishing, Shannon Loftis, believes that whereas it’s extra “complicated” presently, they’re not useless.

Loftis defined in an interview with Gamespot that “the economics of taking a single-player sport and telling a really excessive constancy multi-hour story get slightly extra sophisticated. Gamers need larger constancy and so they need larger decision graphics.”
However, Loftis argues that “Game growth basically is about a few issues. It’s about delivering and expertise and it is about telling tales. Storytelling is as central to sport growth because it ever has been” and “I don’t think that there is ever going to be a time when there aren’t single-player, story-based games.”
Zach Wilson, a senior degree designer at Visceral, went additional in an interview with GamesIndustry, saying “The assertion that single-player linear games are going to disappear is totally absurd,” he says. “EA might not be the company that carries that torch, but there are so many groups out there that are passionate about this kind of game that they won’t go away.”
Like Loftis, Wilson factors to the price of excessive constancy video games, and he argues for “fewer games with higher quality across the board.”
