In the base game, most of your encounters with House Va’ruun are through hostile engagements with their zealots. Your first introduction probably occurred at the UC Vanguard museum, where you learned about the violent Serpent’s Crusade, portraying House Va’ruun as a one-dimensional religious cult. Shattered Space will reveal another perspective, filling in the story’s missing pieces.

A Civilization in Ruin

You arrive on Va’ruun’kai to find its capital city in disarray. A colossal vortex recently tore through Dazra, consuming significant portions of the city. The residents are relentlessly searching for their missing loved ones and attempting to rebuild their lives, and they are not entirely pleased by your presence.

But what exactly is this vortex? What happened to the people who vanished into it? Who will lead the survivors? As you progress through Shattered Space, you will uncover the secrets behind the vortex and ultimately determine the destiny of House Va’ruun.

An Isolated New Locale

For years, the people of House Va’ruun have been isolated from the Settled Systems, making them an ideal faction for a completely contained experience. The entire narrative unfolds on this newly handcrafted planet.

"We wanted to provide an opportunity to explore every inch of this place and uncover clues about who these people really are and what has transpired," explains Lead Producer Joe Mueller. "When conceptualizing this experience, we aimed for it to feel like a quintessential Bethesda Game Studios expansion. The way the planet has been intentionally designed perfectly aligns with this isolationist society. Everything they have done since their inception is encapsulated on Va’ruun’kai. The entire planet tells the story of these people who have never ventured beyond their home and wish to remain hidden."
