The winning medley, titled “Super Mario Praise Break,” weaves together classic motifs like the series’ main theme, “Bob-omb Battlefield,” and “Gusty Garden Galaxy.” The gospel-infused arrangement took the top prize, beating out stiff competition including *Wicked* star Cynthia Erivo. However, the group’s bid for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album was cut short by a win for the Christian McBride Big Band.

In the category dedicated to original game scores, *Journey* composer Austin Wintory took home the trophy for *Sword of the Sea*. Wintory, a frequent nominee, remains the only composer to have a game score nominated for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media, a feat he achieved with *Journey*.

The gaming category has historically favored adaptations of film franchises, making Wintory’s victory over titles like *Star Wars Outlaws*, *Indiana Jones and the Great Circle*, and *Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora* a notable surprise. The ceremony was not without controversy, however, as the critically acclaimed score for *Clair Obscur: Expedition 33* was entirely omitted—a snub Wintory himself acknowledged by stating he would have “happily traded places” with the title.

Nintendo continues to break records, recently selling through its entire stock of the retro Virtual Boy.
