‘Smile’ Director to Remake Andrzej Żuławski’s ‘Possession’

Parker Finn, the filmmaker behind the successful “Smile” horror franchise, is set to direct a reimagining of Andrzej Żuławski’s psychological cult classic, “Possession.” While the original 1981 film featured legendary performances by Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill, this contemporary take will star Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner.

Robert Pattinson is officially attached as a producer on the project, though it is currently unclear whether he will also appear in front of the camera.

Finn confirmed that the script is finalized, with production slated to begin this summer under the banner of Paramount Pictures.

The story follows Mark and Anna, a couple navigating a volatile marital crisis. After returning from an extended trip, Mark is stunned to find his wife demanding a divorce, though she remains disturbingly cryptic about her motivations.

Żuławski’s original screenplay was famously born from the raw emotional turmoil of his own personal separation.
