During the Sundance Film Festival, director James Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell provided an update on the progress of the next Saw project. This upcoming film is envisioned as a spiritual successor to the original 2004 horror classic that launched the phenomenon.
In a conversation with the press, Wan remained tight-lipped regarding specific plot points but emphasized his strong desire to “recapture the visceral spirit of the first chapter” to deliver a genuinely terrifying cinematic experience. However, the duo clarified that they have no intention of disregarding the intricate lore and expansive mythology that the franchise has established over the last twenty years.
Although a premiere date has yet to be confirmed, the creators are clearly dedicated to restoring the legendary series to its high-intensity horror roots.
