After years of working together, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Housemarque have just announced their merger as part of a full acquisition. The Finnish company thus becomes the 13th studio to join the PlayStation Studios family, a few weeks after releasing The Returnal, a game that attracted a lot of attention when it was released. The announcement was made on social networks but also on the PlayStation Blog, which recalls that the studio has already developed 8 exclusive PlayStation games such as Dead Nation, Resogun, Alienation, Nex Machina or even Matterfall.
Known for their experience in arcade mode shooter games, creativity and technical expertise, Housemarque is a long-time partner who has developed eight exclusive PlayStation games including Returnal, Nex Machina and Alienation. With the release of Returnal, a popular PlayStation 5 exclusive, Housemarque has succeeded in integrating spellbinding storytelling into a dynamic and hellish 3D shooter.
We imagine that after The Returnal stage, Housemarque should inherit even more ambitious projects, and why not embark on more narrative solo titles. In the meantime, officials at PlayStation seem very happy with this acquisition.
“Over the years, Housemarque has flaunted his creative mastery across a wide range of PlayStation games, which have consistently highlighted the power of our platforms.”, explains Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “Housemarque, which has a proven track record in creating original games with exceptional gameplay, is an accomplished studio, which we are very pleased to officially welcome into the PlayStation Studios family.”, said Hermen Hulst, Director of PlayStation Studios. We are waiting to see the rest of the blow.
