Sofi Tukker Unveils the Extravagant, Sexy, and Playful Universe of Their New Album ‘Bread’

Beloved dancing duo Sofi Tukker visited the Billboard News workshop to speak about their historical expert connection, their brand-new cd and far more.

“The truth is we never stopped going to the studio, so we’re just always making things,” the team’s Sophie Hawley-Weld states of the duration in between the last Sofi Tukker cd, 2022’s Wet Tennis, and their brand-new job, Bread, out this Friday (Aug 24) via Ultra Music.

The partner of Sofi Tukker, Tucker Halpern, includes that they understand a brand-new job is developing “once we feel like the songs are telling a story and once we feel like, ‘OK there’s something cohesive here that feels like they need to belong together,’ then we make the album.”

Halpern calls Bread, a 10-track collection that consists of functions from Channel Tres, Kah-Lo and MC Bola, “a return to who we are when we started. When we started, I had just finished playing basketball, we were in college, Sophie was a jazz musician playing mostly Brazilian music. I was into house music, playing house parties, she brought everything from her world, and I brought everything from my world, and we kind of mashed them together, and I think [with this album], we did that harder and deeper than we’ve ever done before.”

There are without a doubt layers of significance in the job, with the title referencing far more than baguettes and sourdough. The title track and the, Hawley-Weld states, “abundant, fun, ridiculous, over the top, sexy, playful world” they developed around it with its luxurious visuals, was partly motivated by the 2009 publication The Purity Myth: How America’s Obsession With Virginity Is Hurting Young Women.

“Basically it’s about how this idea of virginity and purity is so harmful to women, and the less we have experienced pleasure, the more value we have. It’s just not OK,” states Hawley-Weld “So we wrote the song ‘Bread’ about owning your appetite — sexually, for food and it’s also a symbol for abundance and owning that as a woman as well.”

“We also don’t want to be preachy when we’re saying things we want to say,” includesHalpern “We also want it to feel fun and light, because that’s also what people often go to our music for, but there is a lot of meaning there.”

In maintaining with this motif, Heidi Klum celebrities together with the duo in the just recently launched video clip for cd track “Spiral.” The triad connected after very first conference the cover girl at Paris Fashion Week, later on employing her to be in the video clip, an invite Klum consented to under the problem that Hawley-Weld and Halpern show up in it too.

“There’s just not that many examples of woman who are totally owning their sexuality,” Hawley-Weld states of collaborating with Klum, “and being around that was really heartwarming and awesome, because I don’t want to feel like my sexuality will decline as I’m getting older, and she proves that doesn’t have to happen.”
