Snoop Dogg is poised to attract one of his largest Australian crowds ever, having been unveiled as the headline entertainer for this year’s AFL Grand Final.
The legendary West Coast emcee will ignite the stage this September at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, host venue for the Australian Football League’s climactic showcase.
“The AFL Grand Final stands as the pinnacle of Australia’s sporting calendar—and this year, it just reached new heights,” AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said in a statement on Tuesday, August 12.
“Snoop Dogg is an innovator, a consummate showman, and a genuine entertainer. He’s filled sold-out arenas worldwide—yet we believe the 100,000-strong crowd at the MCG may become his most monumental audience to date.”
Much like the NFL’s Super Bowl in the United States, the AFL Grand Final signals the culmination of the league’s season. It consistently ranks among the nation’s most-watched broadcasts, drawing millions of viewers each year.
Since 1977, Grand Final Day has featured pre-game performances by top artists, with international acts becoming a staple of the entertainment lineup over the past two decades.
Recent headliners have included Ed Sheeran, The Killers, KISS and Katy Perry, sparking debate about whether homegrown talent should occupy the prestigious pre-match slot.
“We aim for Grand Final Day to be an unforgettable celebration of footy—and beyond the four quarters, a tribute to culture, energy, and entertainment,” Dillon added. “No one embodies that spirit better than Snoop.”
Snoop Dogg’s headline performance is set for Saturday, September 27 at the MCG, with further support acts to be announced in the coming weeks.
“It’s a tremendous honor to perform at the AFL Grand Final—one of the marquee events on Australia’s calendar,” Snoop Dogg said. “I’m excited to bring the energy, unite with the fans, and make it a day to remember.”
