Ryuichi Sakamoto is set to release an alternate version of one of YMO’s signature tracks “Tong Poo” in collaboration with Japanese fashion designer Junya Watanabe.
Sakamoto rearranged the original version of the synthesizer instrumental music upon Watanabe’s request, to be featured in the COMME des GARÇONS designer’s Asian nostalgia-themed Spring/Summer 2022 fashion show.
The pioneering musician will also release a vinyl record of “Tong Poo for JUNYA WATANABE,” coupled with a previously unreleased “alternative arr.” version that he worked on at the same time.
The record is available for preorder at commonsmart in a limited edition of 500 copies, and those who purchase it will be presented with an advance digital download bonus.
“Tong Poo for JUNYA WATANABE” will be made available for download and streaming on major platforms Wednesday, Nov. 24.
