The promoter of the Rolling Stones‘ upcoming U.S. tour said on Thursday (August 26) that the 12-date No Filter outing will go on following the death of drummer Charlie Watts earlier this week. According to Rolling Stone magazine, promoter Concerts West said in a statement that “The Rolling Stones’ tour dates are moving ahead as planned.”
On August 4 the band announced that Watts, 80, would not be joining them on the tour after 58 years behind the kit due to recuperation required after an unspecified medical procedure. They announced at the time that their longtime associate Steve Jordan — who has been member of Stones guitarist Keith Richards’ X-Pensive Winos side project, as well as the John Mayer Trio — would be filling in for Watts. At the time, Jordan said in a statement, “It is an absolute honor and a privilege to be Charlie’s understudy and I am looking forward to rehearsing with Mick, Keith and Ronnie. No-one will be happier than me to give up my seat on the drum-riser as soon as Charlie tells me he is good to go.”
The No Filter tour was originally scheduled to hit U.S. stadiums in 2020 before being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic; the outing is slated to resume on Sept. 26 with a show at the Dome of America’s Center in St. Louis and run through a Nov. 20 gig at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
