A month ago, parallel to the discontinuation of support for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1, Rockstar Games made amendments to “Terms of Service”.
At that time, we didn’t delve deeply into the text that came into effect recently, on February 28th, but it turns out there’s something quite interesting in it. Specifically: section 8.2 “Automatically Generated Characters”.
As part of our Services, we may offer you the opportunity to play with friends or other opponents found through matchmaking. To ensure the presence of players of the right skill level, we might include among such opponents automatically generated characters, controlled by the computer, who look and play like real people.
Of course, computer-controlled characters are absolutely all NPCs in the game, including those who shoot at us in missions and those who simply populate the cities. But the point here is about full-fledged partners in business. The problem of endlessly long lobby filling could be solved by adding bots, such as those in CS. But it is still unclear where this could be implemented: in the existing GTA Online or in its continuation, which will be based on GTA 6.
