Resident Evil Re:Verse, the free multiplayer mode for Resident Evil Village, has been delayed until 2022, Capcom announced Thursday. The bonus mode was originally slated to release alongside the game, but was first delayed to summer in April.

Capcom tweeted Thursday that “updated launch details” will be available “at a later time.”

“The previously announced July 2021 launch of Resident Evil Re:Verse is being moved to 2022 so that the team can continue working to deliver a smooth gameplay experience,” Capcom said in a tweet. “Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

Re:Verse is expected to feature Resident Evil franchise favorites like Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, Nemesis, Hunk, Chris Redfield, Ada Wong, and Jack Baker as playable characters. Four to six players will compete against each other in a deathmatch set in a combat arena that appears to be based on the Raccoon City Police Department. Resident Evil Village owners will have free access to the stylized, cel-shaded mode.

Capcom has held multiple beta tests for Re:Verse, where different technical flaws were found.

Players that purchased physical copies of Resident Evil Village are instructed to add the download code to their accounts now so that it’s available when the multiplayer mode is ready in 2022. Otherwise, players will need to keep a hold of their codes until then.

Though the video game industry has seen high profits during the COVID-19 pandemic, with people turning to video games for entertainment, it’s been a challenging period for game developers themselves. Video game development has slowed while game studios adjusted to life in a devastating pandemic, and multiple games have since been delayed. Alongside Re:Verse, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, Gran Turismo 7, and Hogwarts Legacy were all pushed back to 2022.
