Hello, gorgeous: Pride Month is going out with a bang. In celebration of Barbra Streisand‘s upcoming album Release Me 2, Internet musical king Randy Rainbow has released an homage to the icon to end all icons, “She’s the Greatest Star.” Even better, Streisand is sharing a previously unreleased song from her vaults, a duet with Kermit the Frog on the Muppet’s timeless track “Rainbow Connection.” Today truly is a double rainbow day.
Rainbow’s Streisand celebration, “She’s the Greatest Star,” borrows melodies from two classic Funny Girl songs, “I’m the Greatest Star” and “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” and finds him feting the “goddess of gays” while “going mental for my Yentl.” The two previously crossed digital paths in February when Rainbow roasted Marjorie Taylor Greene to the tune of Streisand’s “Evergreen,” which caught her attention. “U have potential!” Streisand tweeted at Rainbow, to which he replied, “Aaaand that’s a wrap on my life, you guys. There’s nothing left for me to achieve on this earth so I’m taking my Jewish lasers to space.”
Well, apparently Rainbow has returned to earth long enough to enjoy an unboxing of Babs’ upcoming Release Me 2, a 10-track collection of career-spanning unreleased songs from her archives, in his latest video. The set includes her take on “Rainbow Connection,” which was originally slated for 1979’s Wet but cut due to the length of her Hot 100-topping duet with Donna Summer, “No More Tears (Enough Is Enough).” The version of “Rainbow Connection” on Release Me 2 melds her 1979 vocal with Jim Henson’s 1979 vocal as Kermit the Frog. Of duetting with the humble amphibian, Streisand raves, “I think of him as ageless and ever-GREEN!”
