Developers have rebranded themselves.
During the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted 2025 broadcast, the team behind the game formerly known as Crosswind officially announced a complete rebrand: both the studio and the project will now be called Windrose (the studio operating as Windrose Crew).
The renaming accompanies a radical shift in the game’s concept. Originally Crosswind was positioned as a free-to-play MMO survival title, but after the alpha tests the team abandoned that model. According to producer Filip Molodkovets, the primary reason was the enormous number of technical challenges and the scale of work required to build a full-fledged MMO.
The scope and concurrent player counts have been reduced, but the core premise remains: Windrose is a pirate action game about rising to become the most feared raider of the seas. It can be played solo or cooperatively with friends.
The game is slated to enter Early Access on PC in the first half of 2026.
