Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U” (Geffen) enters a fourth consecutive week at No. 1 in the U.K., and by doing so, becomes the longest-reigning rock-influenced No. 1 single for 18 years.
The teenage U.S. phenom clocks up 9.8 million U.K. streams during the chart week, and bags more than double the chart sales of its nearest rival, The Weeknd’s “Save Your Tears” (Republic Records/XO), the OCC reports.
The last single with rock at its heart to log four weeks at the summit was Evanescence’s “Bring Me To Life,” back in 2003.
Meanwhile, 2021 Eurovision winners Måneskin from Italy now have a U.K. Top 10 with “I Wanna Be Your Slave” (Columbia), which lifts 12-7.
British singer and songwriter Mimi Webb has this week’s highest new entry with “Dumb Love” (Epic), new at No. 12. It’s Webb’s second Top 20 single following “Good Without,” which holds at No. 9 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart this week.
New Zealand singer and songwriter Lorde returns to the chart with “Solar Power” (Virgin), which powers in at No. 17 for her third Top 20 appearance.
Also notable this week is the return of the “3 Lions” soccer anthem by David Baddiel, Frank Skinner & The Lightning Seeds. “3 Lions” typically comes home to the U.K. singles chart when the national team competes in a major tournament. Such is the case right now, as England eyes a spot in the next round of the UEFA European Championship. “3 Lions” re-enters at No. 22, with the single issued on red vinyl this month to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
Over on the Official U.K. Albums Chart, Noel Gallagher scores a 12th No. 1 as his High Flying Birds’ career-retrospective Back The Way We Came: Vol 1 (2011-2021) (via Sour Mash) soars to the summit. Back The Way We Came is Gallagher’s fourth chart-topper with the High Flying Birds, and it completes the dozen, when factoring-in his eight No. 1 albums with Oasis.
Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour holds at No. 2 on the current survey and is the U.K.’s most-streamed album for a fourth consecutive week, according to the OCC, while U.S. rapper Polo G’s third album Hall Of Fame (Columbia) starts at No. 3, and Garbage enjoys a No. 5 start with No Gods No Masters (Infectious Music). It’s the alternative rockers’ highest charting effort since 2005’s Bleed Like Me.
