Nintendo will release a new version of the Nintendo Switch this October. The new Nintendo Switch will cost $349.99, $50 more than the price of the original Nintendo Switch that launched in 2017.
The official name of the new console is the Nintendo Switch (OLED model), according to a news release from Nintendo. The new system will come in two color variations, one with white Joy-Cons, and the other with traditional red and blue Joy-Cons.
The new Nintendo Switch will boast a larger, 7-inch screen and an OLED display when it launches on Oct. 8. The standard Switch has a 6.2-inch LCD screen, and outputs a 1080p feed when docked. (Nintendo did not specify resolution of the new Nintendo Switch model in its announcement.)
The new Switch will also feature a wide adjustable stand, a dock with a wired LAN port, 64 GB of internal storage, and “enhanced audio.”
Nintendo’s confirmation of the new Nintendo Switch comes after months of rumors and reports about an upgraded version of the hit console-handheld hybrid. Word of a new, more powerful Switch dates back to 2019.
Nintendo also sells the $199 Nintendo Switch Lite, which launched in September 2019 with a 5.5-inch screen, and includes non-detachable controllers and cannot be docked to a TV.
