The upcoming season adapts the legendary “Steel Ball Run” arc, chronicling an epic equestrian race across the American frontier.
Streaming giant Netflix has officially announced that the anime adaptation of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run is scheduled to premiere on March 19, 2026. The series will debut with a special extended first episode featuring a 47-minute runtime.
“Steel Ball Run” masterfully blends elements of the classic Western with high-stakes adventure and intense drama. Set in an alternate-reality late 19th-century America, the narrative follows a grueling transcontinental race spanning from San Diego to New York. Organized by an eccentric philanthropist, the event offers a staggering $50 million grand prize, though participants soon discover that far more than just money is on the line.
The story centers on Gyro Zeppeli, a mysterious rider who wields a unique spinning technique with steel spheres, and Johnny Joestar, a former prodigy jockey who is now paraplegic. Together, they find themselves entangled in a dark conspiracy involving influential politicians, ruthless mercenaries, religious zealots, and individuals gifted with supernatural powers.
Yasuhiro Kimura and Hideya Takahashi, the creative duo behind the Golden Wind adaptation, return to direct this new installment. Toshiyuki Kato has been appointed as the chief director, while Yasuko Kobayashi (renowned for her work on Attack on Titan) handles the screenplay. Animation production remains in the hands of the acclaimed studio david production.
