Lenovo to release Legion Go 2 handheld with SteamOS in January — rumor

While Valve remains tight-lipped regarding a potential Steam Deck 2, a more formidable contender powered by SteamOS is poised to hit the market.

Reports indicate that Lenovo is engineering a new iteration of its handheld gaming PC, the Legion Go 2, specifically optimized to run Valve’s proprietary SteamOS. This specialized version is expected to make its debut at CES 2026 in January.

This move follows the trajectory of the earlier Legion Go S, which launched with SteamOS several months after the initial Windows release. That version received a notably warmer reception from both tech critics and the gaming community, primarily due to how seamlessly the SteamOS interface adapts to portable hardware.

The original Legion Go 2 first arrived in October 2025 with a premium starting price of $1,099, positioning it as one of the most high-end alternatives to the Steam Deck. This cost is reflected in its high-performance specifications: an AMD Ryzen Z2 or Z2 Extreme chipset, up to 2TB of internal storage, a vibrant 8.8-inch OLED display, 32GB of RAM, and a high-capacity 74Wh battery.

Despite Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to market Windows 11 as the “ultimate gaming environment”—including the rollout of the Xbox Full Screen Experience—a significant portion of the user base still considers SteamOS to be the more intuitive and stable solution for handheld form factors.

While hardware enthusiasts are eager for news on a “Steam Deck 2,” Valve has explicitly stated that a true successor won’t be arriving in the immediate future. As a result, many gamers are either opting for manual SteamOS installations or waiting for factory-ready devices like the upcoming Legion Go 2 variant.

As of now, Lenovo has not released official details regarding the specific launch date or the retail price for the SteamOS-powered Legion Go 2.
