“This is not an expedition — it’s an execution”: Iron Lung horror film from DUSK creator releases January 30

Renowned content creator Markiplier has officially completed work on the cinematic adaptation of David Szymanski’s chilling horror project.

The film version of Iron Lung—the hit horror title developed by David Szymanski, the creator of DUSK and Gloomwood—is scheduled to hit theaters on January 30, 2026.

Following the premise of the original game, the story unfolds in a desolate, post-apocalyptic universe. In this grim future, survivors dispatch prisoners to explore a vast ocean of blood on a distant moon in a desperate search for resources. The narrative focuses on a claustrophobic solo expedition into the depths, confined within a sealed submersible capsule.

Mark Fischbach, widely known by his online moniker Markiplier, took the helm as director and also stars in the leading role. The cast features Seán McLoughlin (Free Guy), Caroline Kaplan (Orange Is the New Black), and Elle LaMont (Alita: Battle Angel). Speculation suggests that David Szymanski himself may appear in a cameo role.

The film’s score was composed by Andrew Hulshult, a celebrated musician recognized for his work on DUSK, Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods, Prodeus, Amid Evil, and the remasters of Heretic and Hexen.

A theatrical release has been confirmed for over a thousand locations across the United States and Canada, though details regarding international distribution remain scarce. Furthermore, a schedule for digital releases or streaming debuts has not yet been established.
