Another week, another expanded reflection of international reach on Billboard‘s global charts.
On the May 22-dated Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, Thai rappers Sprite and Guygeegee debut at No. 89 with “Ton,” marking the first acts from Thailand and the first song in the Thai language to crack the survey.
“Ton” makes its chart debut on the back of 23.6 million streams and 750 downloads sold outside the U.S. in the week ending May 13, according to MRC Data.
Sprite is a 15-year-old rapper, quickly on the rise in Thailand and beyond. Earlier this year, he contributed to “Trust Again,” a song inspired by the recently released Disney film Raya and the Last Dragon, alongside Raisa (from Indonesia), YonnyBoii (Malaysia) and Matthaios (Philippines).
Elsewhere, two songs sporting German artists debut on the Global Excl. U.S. chart: “Extasy” by Bonez Mc, Frauenarzt and 187 Strassenbande at No. 107 and “Elmas” by Luciano and Lil Zey at No. 199. While all three acts on the former song hail from Germany, the latter track mixes artists from Germany (Luciano) and Turkey (Lil Zey), with each act rapping in their native language.
The German/Turkish-language song is just the second multilingual track that does not feature English to appear on the Global Excl. U.S. chart so far. “Djadja” by Aya Nakamura featuring Maluma, performed in a mix of French and Spanish, reached No. 32 last September.
Plus, three Japanese-language songs debut on this week’s Global Excl. U.S. chart. Official Hige Dandism’s “Cry Baby” starts at No. 45 (and No. 115 on the Billboard Global 200); Yoasobi’s “Mou Sukoshi Dake” launches at No. 57 (No. 147 on Global 200); and Aimyon’s “Till I Know What Love Is (I’m Never Gonna Die)” enters at No. 113. Additionally, while Fujii Kaze’s “Kirari” debuted on last week’s Global Excl. U.S. ranking, it climbs to No. 66 and simultaneously cracks the Global 200 at No. 154.
