In the August data, Mario Kart 8 again appeared in the rankings at seventh place — comfortably ahead of Mario Kart World, which didn’t crack the top ten. So why is the older title outselling its follow‑up in physical units? The Switch 2 console bundle that ships with Mario Kart World appears to be a key factor.
“The bundle accounts for over 80% of Switch 2 hardware sales,” Piscatella explains on Bluesky, “so the math from there kind of makes it impossible for standalone physical World sales to chart.” It certainly helps that Mario Kart 8 remains widely regarded as the series’ most enduring entry.
