For Korn, the show must go on. Even if that means singer Jonathan Davis has to take a seat on a custom throne during the metal band’s shows due to lingering effects of his bout with COVID-19. Earlier this month, the group rescheduled six dates and cancelled two after Davis tested positive for the novel coronavirus, but according to a video post from guitarist Brian “Head” Welch, the singer is fighting through the pain.
“Jonathan Davis is still struggling with the COVID after-effects. He’s physically weak and having a mental battle,” said Welch in the video recorded in his car. “And any type of love, light and energy you can throw at him — prayers, all of it. We have shows coming up, so all of you guys, check the dates. Whatever show you’re going to, throw him some love and energy, man — he needs you more than ever.”
In some fan video from the group’s August 27 show in Tinley Park, Illinois at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater, Davis is seen playing his traditional bagpipe solo before “Shoots and Ladders.” In his first gig back after revealing his positive diagnosis, Davis is seen wandering slowly around the stage before taking a seat on a custom throne near the drum riser, coughing and appearing to take a minute to catch his breath. In another video, Davis repeatedly implores the fans to be “safe” while they’re rocking out.
According to footage posted by TMZ of the Tinley Park show, a “very emotional” Davis said he was feeling “very weak,” but he refused to skip the show, even as he took occasional hits from an oxygen tank set up near this throne.
