Kelly Clarkson blasted off on Tuesday’s (July 6) edition of her syndicated daytime talk show with a Kellyoke rendition of Starship‘s 1987 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now.” Coming off the holiday weekend, the show dedicated the day’s episode to moms everywhere who kept things going during the global coronavirus pandemic, with Clarkson offering a mellow run through the power ballad co-written by Diane Warren and Albert Hammond.

“And we can build this dream together/ Standing strong forever/ Nothing’s gonna stop us now,” Clarkson, 39, crooned on a purple-hued stage as she easily handled the vocals on the track that originally topped the charts when she was still a child. “And if this world runs out of lovers/ We’ll still have each other/ Nothing’s gonna stop us/ Nothing’s gonna stop us now.”

“The perfect anthem for moms who survived parenting in lockdown!” The Kelly Clarkson Show‘s Twitter account shared of her nostalgic cover. “#KeepCalmandMomOn”

“Nothing” appeared on No Protection, the second studio album from Starship, the San Francisco group that emerged from the ashes of iconic psychedelic group Jefferson Starship/Airplane. The original version was a duet between singers Mickey Thomas and Grace Slick; it also appeared on the soundtrack to the romantic comedy Mannequin and was Grammy-, Emmy- and Golden Globe-winner Warren’s first No. 1 hit.
