“Empire” star Jussie Smollett has given his first tv interview in regards to the attack he suffered in Chicago last month. Speaking with Robin Roberts on an episode of “Good Morning America” that aired right now (February 14), Smollett mentioned, “I’m pissed off. It’s the attackers, but it’s also the attacks.” He then mentioned the assault in vivid element, describing the racist slurs his attackers used, in addition to the battle that ensued and the aftermath.
Smollett additionally questioned individuals who have doubted his story. “It feels like if I had said it was a Muslim, or a Mexican, or someone black, I feel like the doubters would have supported me much more. A lot more,” he mentioned. “And that says a lot about the place that we are in our country right now.” Watch under.
Following the assault, which occurred on January 29, Jussie Smollet’s household launched a press release, calling the incident an “inhumane act of domestic terrorism.”
In his own statement, issued in February, Smollett mentioned, “I still believe that justice will be served.” He continued, “As my family stated, these types of cowardly attacks are happening to my sisters, brothers and non-gender conforming siblings daily. I am not and should not be looked upon as an isolated incident.”
