John Mayer Rides the ‘Last Train Home’ to ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’: Watch His Performance

John Mayer

John Mayer brought the mellow “Last Train Home” to Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night (June 7), jamming out the airy Doobie Brothers/Toto-adjacent ballad on a pink guitar backed by an eight-piece band. The song is the first single from the guitarist-singer’s upcoming eighth studio album, Sob Rock, which is due out on July 16.

“I’m not a fallen angel, I just fell behind/ I’m out of luck and I’m out of time/ If you don’t wanna love me, let me go/ I’m runnin’ for the last train,” Mayer sang on the chill ballad accented by a pair of his signature guitar face solos. “I’m runnin’ for the last train home.”

Mayer recently hyped the follow-up to 2017’s The Search For Everything by releasing the official “Last Train” video highlighting the song’s slick rock production in a distinctively 1980s style, fittingly, in a video that pays homage to Guns N’ Roses’ iconic “Sweet Child o’ Mine” visual.

The credits for “Train” also reveal that it features keys from legendary session player Greg Phillingaines (Michael Jackson, Toto, Eric Clapton) and additional vocals from Maren Morris.
