James Corden Takes ‘Friends’ Cast on Golf Cart Karaoke Trip, Behind Scenes of Reunion

On Wednesday night’s (June 16) Late Late Show, James Corden took the Friends crew out for a round of “Golf Cart Karaoke” and then hung on the show’s set to get some dish on their emotional reunion. The 11-minute visit opened like a normal “Carpool Karaoke” bit, with Corden driving around and then running into Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox, who hopped on as James made his way to soundstage 24 for the anticipated chat.

Of course Jennifer Aniston and Matt LeBlanc, and then David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry packed in as well and, wouldn’t you know it, Corden convinced them to do a Carpool version of the show’s iconic hand-clapping theme song “I’ll Be There For You” as they reminisced about how it felt to come back together for their reunion special. “We didn’t expect it to hit us as hard as it hit us,” Aniston said of how moving it was to bring the gang back together.

“I always wanted to do Carpool Karaoke!” Cox yelled after the run through the Rembrandts’ iconic theme.

The trip around the Warner Bros. lot included the six cast mates plopping down at Central Perk to dig deeper into the emotions they felt when the cameras were off. “This is so weird, I feel more nostalgic than if I was going back to an old apartment I ever lived in,” Corden said as he wandered through Joey and Chandler’s living room, snapping a selfie in front of the front door and explaining to the kids out there what CDs and CD players are. “You would put them in there and they would play music,” he said snarkily.

Corden also couldn’t help doing the “I’m engaged” dance on the balcony, leaning all the way back in one of Joey and Chandler’s iconic worn leather chairs and telling the cast how overwhelmed he was to see all the classic sets in real life. “Me personally, I didn’t sort of anticipate how much being on set was going to hit me,” said LeBlanc about the emotions that welled up. “We spent a lot of time in these sets, had a lot of laughs, some of it made it on the camera. But the funniest stuff, like that happened between us that never made it to TV, those are like the memories we keep talking about.”

Luckily the prop tissues were at hand because Kudrow and Aniston couldn’t stop welling up when talking about their favorite spots on set. They also, of course, played a game, The Best Friends Test, in which they answered questions like: who cracked up the most during takes (Kudrow, Aniston), best dancer (Schwimmer and Aniston), who stole the most wardrobe (Aniston again) and the friend who will always be there for you when the rain stars to fall (all of them).

Last month’s HBO Max special Friends: The Reunion had the original cast joined by a bevy of special guests, including Justin Bieber, BTS, Lady Gaga, David Beckham, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne,  Elliott Gould and Tom Selleck, with Corden hosting and interviewing the actors about their fondest memories.
