Over the past two decades, we often wondered why the creators of GTA weren’t interesting in delighting fans with a film adaptation of their flagship game series. It later became known that there were propositions from filmmakers, but they were rejected. Nonetheless, Dan Houser provided an answer to this question. However, that doesn’t mean the topic has ceased to interest fans. The subject was recently brought up again by Jack Black (Jack Black). In an episode of the Inside Total Film podcast, the actor, comedian, and musician, known for his love of video games and roles in adaptations, said the following.
I can’t believe they haven’t started working on a movie based on a Rockstar game – GTA, and especially, RDR. They are already like movies, aren’t they?
Following this, the community began to discuss whether these franchises should be adapted for the big screen or as streaming products. Without a doubt, giants like Netflix or major Hollywood studios would give all their billions to obtain the rights to shoot Grand Theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption. But as Jack Black himself sang in one of his songs, these video games are more than just video games. And, despite the fact that video game adaptations have gotten better than they were 15-20 years ago, GTA and RDR seem entirely self-sufficient without needing to become a movie or series.
