Renowned filmmaker James Wan, the creative force behind Insidious, The Conjuring, and Aquaman, has officially selected his next directorial venture: a reimagining of the 2019 South Korean hit The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil.
The original narrative centers on a provincial crime boss who narrowly survives a brutal encounter with a serial killer, becoming the only victim to escape with his life. To restore his tarnished reputation within the criminal underworld and exact vengeance upon the murderer, the mobster forms an unlikely alliance with a local detective.
The 2019 original was directed by Lee Won-tae and featured standout performances from Ma Dong-seok, Kim Mu-yeol, and Kim Sung-kyu. The upcoming Hollywood remake is being developed by Paramount Pictures, with a screenplay penned by Shay Hatten (Ballerina) and Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential). Details regarding the cast and an official release date have not yet been disclosed.
