Reports have surfaced confirming that Aaron Pierre has been cast in the upcoming Superman sequel. The actor is set to portray the legendary Green Lantern, specifically taking on the mantle of John Stewart.
The follow-up, officially titled Man of Tomorrow, is scheduled to hit theaters in the summer of 2027. However, audiences will get their first glimpse of Pierre’s Stewart much sooner in the HBO series Lanterns, which is slated for release this August.
Principal photography for the second Superman installment is expected to kick off in April. James Gunn returns to direct the blockbuster, with David Corenswet reprising his titular role. The ensemble cast also features Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
The first Superman film debuted in July 2025, grossing $618 million at the global box office. This marks a pivotal return for the Green Lantern character to the big screen; the hero’s only previous live-action cinematic appearance was in the 2011 solo film starring Ryan Reynolds, which was famously panned by critics and struggled to find commercial success.
