Nintendo’s “Nightmare” Approaches? Tencent Invites Players to Test Animula Nook, an Animal Crossing Competitor
Tencent has shared the first official details regarding the debut playtest for Animula Nook, which is scheduled to commence on March 19, 2026.
Positioned as a direct competitor to the iconic Animal Crossing franchise, Animula Nook will be released as a free-to-play title. It distinguishes itself by offering a significantly more advanced graphical presentation than the Nintendo-developed series.
The game’s visual fidelity is so high that some skeptics have voiced concerns that the trailers might be misleading or pre-rendered. However, the true nature of the project will be revealed in just a matter of days. The latest footage showcases a level of detail that modern gaming PCs and current consoles can comfortably handle. Animula Nook is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo Switch 2.
Interested players can apply for the playtest on the official website until March 15, 2026. Tencent has also confirmed that global pre-registrations for the title have already exceeded 6.97 million users.
