Grand Theft Auto: First BattlEye Results: Cheat Program Shutdown, Steam Deck Owners’ Dissatisfaction, Price Drop Today at 21:17 Opla G30

Adding BattlEye a few days ago can be likened to taking an antibiotic, which can be both beneficial and harmful. An undeniable advantage is that the anti-cheat has indeed curbed some dishonest players in GTA Online. Despite claims that it was bypassed within just 24 hours (no one expected cheaters to disappear completely), one of the popular free cheat programs, Kiddions, has fallen victim. Its creators believe that the future of such schemes is very uncertain. However, a message later appeared stating that the authors had decided to cease operations even earlier. In any case, the story of Kiddions has come to an end.

The adverse effect was felt by those using Steam Deck. After the update, the game became incompatible with Linux, the operating system used by the device. Rockstar Games officially announced this, and Valve even approved refunds for some players, ignoring their own refund terms.

Refund for GTA 5 approved on Steam.

GTA 5, which is part of the top games on Steam Deck (sixth for the past week, ninth for the month, and eleventh for the year), also received over 1,500 negative reviews in four days—nearly 10 times the usual amount.

The most outrageous aspect of the situation is that the anti-cheat works seamlessly with Proton (an environment that emulates Windows games on Linux, making it possible to run them on Steam Deck). As noted in a statement from three years ago, “all a developer needs to do is contact BattlEye.” Do Rockstar have a hidden motive for not doing this? Or is it just negligence? However, in one of the responses, Valve’s technical support assures that they have already contacted their colleagues at R* and are trying to find a solution to the problem. The only action taken so far is a price reduction on the game in Steam.

Will Valve and Rockstar Games find a solution that satisfies players?

It is also worth noting Rockstar’s new policy on bans, which allows players to appeal a ban.
