Din Djarin and Grogu are set to face a formidable new menace in their upcoming cinematic adventure.
Slated for a May 2026 release, “The Mandalorian & Grogu” is poised to introduce a fresh primary antagonist to succeed Moff Gideon. This shift is highlighted by recent comments from Giancarlo Esposito, who portrayed the calculated Imperial remnant leader throughout the original series.
In an interview with Empire magazine, Esposito confirmed that he is not currently involved in the film project. However, the actor expressed a keen interest in returning to the franchise down the line, noting that he views Moff Gideon’s narrative as far from finished. The character’s ultimate fate remained intentionally ambiguous; though he appeared to perish in a massive explosion during the third season finale, his body was never recovered.
Gideon’s absence confirms that the film must establish a new central threat. While the appearance of Rotta the Hutt and other members of the Hutt Clan has been corroborated, it remains unclear who will serve as the definitive foil to the legendary bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his apprentice, Grogu.
Jon Favreau returns to the director’s chair for this highly anticipated feature. “The Mandalorian & Grogu” is scheduled to make its theatrical debut on May 22, 2026.
