A lawyer says psychological sickness triggered the promoter of a failed music pageant to tear off traders and commit different crimes.
Attorney Randall Jackson urged a Manhattan choose Friday to be lenient at Billy McFarland’s October sentencing.
McFarland pleaded responsible earlier this 12 months to defrauding traders within the 2017 Fyre Festival within the Bahamas and dishonest clients in a ticket rip-off. Without leniency, he faces over a decade in jail.
Jackson cited a psychological report saying McFarland has Bipolar Related Disorder and will generally have “delusional beliefs of having special and unique talents that will lead to fame and fortune.”
McFarland earned tabloid headlines after fraudulently enlisting 80 traders to pour $26 million right into a pageant promoted as “the cultural experience of the decade.” The pageant was canceled.
