Exapunks hacks its approach out of early entry, GIF’d for bragging rights

If there’s three issues Zachlikes have turn into identified for, it’s programming-inspired puzzling, histograms and animated victory recordings to brag over on Twitter – now Exapunks has all three. After a short tour of early entry, grungy retro-cyberpunk hacking sim Exapunks is free to rampage throughout the web. While no patch notes have rolled out for the official model 1.zero launch, a patch a number of days in the past launched the animated victory GIFs everyone knows and love, displaying scores and EXA actions, though not the code inside.

As with Zachtronics’s current releases, Exapunks was practically full and fairly polished when it entered early entry. Those months had been principally used to tune issues up, steadiness a number of significantly ornery puzzles and implement some quality-of-life options. The largest factor added in early entry was a set of nine extra puzzles, following the lives of the secondary characters you ran into within the in-game chat community. Another good options was a standalone version of the Redshift Player, a digital console programmable in-game which runs digital cartridges embedded in picture information.

The finish result’s admittedly much less accessible than the delightfully tactile Opus Magnum, however one more slick brain-mangler from the studio, praised by Brendy in his early review here. While my favorite Zachlike stays Infinifactory (I simply deal with its blocky 3D puzzle-spaces higher), I’ve loved what I’ve solved up to now in Exapunks, and I goal to make time to grasp its assembly-based code someday. My solely remorse is that the physical version of the game (full with printed zines, 3D glasses and Mystery Lore Envelope) is bought out, making this a digital-only launch.

Exapunks is out now on Steam and Humble, 20% discounted for launch, bringing it all the way down to £12.39/€13.49/$15.99. The standalone TEC Redshift Player is available here, and free.
