Telemundo and Billboard have unveiled the 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards finalists, with Bad Bunny taking the lead as a 22-time finalist.
The Puerto Rican superstar is a finalist for 22 awards in 13 categories including artist of the year and songwriter of the year. Ozuna still holds the record as a 23-time finalist in 15 categories at the 2019 Billboard Latin Music Awards. He also broke the record as the top winner ever taking home 11 awards that year.
At the 2021 awards, Bad Bunny competes against himself in multiple categories, including streaming song of the year — where four out of five titles are his — and all three of his albums released in 2020 are up for the title of top Latin album of the year.
His Jhay Cortez-assisted “Dakiti” alone is a six-time finalist. The track spent 27 weeks at No. 1 in Hot Latin Songs, becoming the fourth-most in history following Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito,” Enrique Iglesias, Gente de Zona, and Descemer Bueno’s “Bailando” and “El Perdon” by Nicky Jam and Enrique Iglesias.
His set YHLQMDLG spent 29 weeks at No. 1 on Top Latin Albums, fifth-most in history following Gloria Estefan’s Mi Tierra, his own X 100PRE, Ozuna’s Odisea, and Selena’s Dreaming of You.
The 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards, produced and broadcasted live by Telemundo, will take place Thursday, Sept. 23, at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Fla., kicking off at 7 p.m. ET with the one-hour red carpet special “La Alfombra de Premios Billboard,” followed by the three-hour Billboard Latin Music Awards.
The special event will coincide with Billboard Latin Music Week, returning to Miami from Sept. 20 to 25. The weeklong event celebrates Latin music, culture, and entertainment with exclusive performances, one-of-a-kind conversations, workshops, showcases, and on-the-ground consumer moments.
