Drake has been dodging one important question this whole summer: Where is Certified Lover Boy? But there might be a good reason why it’s late: He had COVID-19.
The Toronto rapper revealed his diagnosis on Monday (Aug. 16) in a comment under a post from an Instagram fan account @drizzy_drake_vids. The page reposted a picture from his original Instagram Story of a straight-faced Drake in the studio, his hairline looking faded with only half a heart, with the caption “That heart is stressed” with the skull and cry-laughing emojis. But the “Laugh Now Cry Later” artist’s response was anything but half-hearted.
“I had Covid that s— grew in weird I had to start again,” he wrote with a cry-laughing emoji. “It’s coming back don’t diss.”
While OVO fans’ beating hearts can stay relatively still knowing the heart’s coming, they’re still wondering if CLB, his sixth studio album, is. The man himself promised it would by summer’s end in a June interview at the Ultimate Rap League’s N.O.M.E. XI battle rap event. “Oh, yeah, I’ll be there. My album will be out by then,” the superstar rapper said at the time.
Certified Lover Boy was originally scheduled for release in January, but Drake explained on his Instagram Story that month that he had to postpone it. “I was planning to release my album this month but between surgery and rehab my energy has been dedicated to recovery,” he wrote. “I’m blessed to be back on my feet and feeling great and focused on the album, but CLB won’t be dropping in January.”
