It’s regular to have slightly dice-rolling in a game. Putting them within the hero’s chair, not a lot. Dice are usually the silent decide, deciding clutch victory from horrific failure on a whim. They’re what separate mission success from a pile of lifeless XCOM soldiers. Maybe it’s time to place these bones by means of the wringer themselves. See how they prefer it.
Dicey Dungeons is the newest venture from a workforce of expertise headed up by hexagon masochist Terry Cavanagh, reunited with musical bleep-bloop maestro Chipzel. It’s random, it’s tactical, and it’s out in three weeks.
Dicey Dungeons is a lightweight and vibrant little deck-building roguelike, a far cry from its creator’s previous work. Picking from considered one of six cubic characters, you’ll be rolling the bones to fit into an ever-growing listing of tactical choices. Will you play it protected with the Warrior, pushing the percentages ever in your favour? Or stay on the sting of your seat, swapping out your loadout each flip with the engineer?
It’s slightly bit Tharsis, if rather less merciless.
Time was, you may get an early peek in alpha builds. Fortunately, there’s nonetheless a free low-fi web version over on Cavanagh’s website. You know, in case you wish to attempt your odds earlier than rolling the cube.
Listen: I’d usually steer clear from randomness like this. I’ll admit to throwing suits at my accomplice after shedding card games. But whether or not it’s some method of design trickery, or that I’m not simply getting out-rolled by a human opponent, I’m having a very good time with Dicey Dungeons. Helps that it’s a correct charmer to have a look at.
Dicey Dungeons tumbles onto Steam and Itch.io on August 13th.
