After four weeks of Destiny 2’s Season of the Lost, Bungie finally launched the calendar and roadmap for the game’s current season. But unlike previous schedules, which listed out the exact dates for events and quests, Season of the Lost’s calendar roadmap is surprisingly sparse.
Season of the Lost is already in a unique position. Due to The Witch Queen’s delay earlier this year, Season of the Lost will run from August of this year to Feb. 22, 2022. That’s a six month season, where seasons like Splicer and Chosen traditionally last for only three. With the long season, Bungie has a lot of seasonal events to cram into Season of the Lost. And with the Bungie 30th Anniversary add-on pack coming later this year, the content drought shouldn’t be too unbearable.
All of the events for the August to September block on the roadmap are available in game: Trials rework (although Bungie is still fiddling with it each weekend), new seasonal content, new weapons, and the Ager’s Scepter Exotic quest.
Festival of the Lost is the next big event coming to Destiny 2, and will almost certainly appear in early October. This year’s Halloween stand-in will offer players a new activity — Haunted Sectors rather than the Haunted Forest we’ve had for years. Players can also buy the fan-voted dinosaur armor, which Bungie teased alongside a classic monster set earlier this year.
Grandmaster Nightfalls will launch on Oct. 5, potentially the same day as Festival of the Lost. Sometime between October and November, players will get higher difficulty options for the two main seasonal activities: Astral Alignment and Shattered Realm. Based on the other stuff definitely happening in October, we’d wager difficulty options will pop up in early November.
The December to February stretch is the longest, but should include some interesting content. The Bungie 30th Anniversary Event starts on Dec. 7, and includes both paid and free content for players. Most notably, paid players can pick up the Gjallarhorn Exotic rocket launcher and run through a new dungeon in the Cosmodrome.
December will also see the return of The Dawning event — Destiny 2’s winter holiday stand-in. Moments of Triumph, an event that celebrates the end of one year of Destiny and birth of the next, will also make an appearance before The Witch Queen’s launch on Feb. 22, 2022. We’d wager Moments of Triumph will make it into the game in early January, just after the holidays.
Not shown on this roadmap are potential hidden secret quests and story moments. With Season of the Lost being a direct tie-in to the events of The Witch Queen, a lot of story needs to happen between now and February. There’s likely a season finale event, similar to the Epilogue in Season of the Splicer, planned for early-to-mid February to hype fans up for the new expansion.
While it’s possible Bungie could release a more detailed roadmap with dates for some of these holiday events, players likely won’t have more than a week of lead time before they start.
