Desert Daze is returning to Southern California this year (Nov. 12-14) after taking 2020 off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s festival is being booked and promoted by founder, curator and artist Phil Pirrone of Moon Block Collective and Morgan Margolis of Knitting Factory Entertainment, continuing a partnership that began in 2016.
Desert Daze is returning to Lake Perris, Calif. for a scaled-down version of the festival, known for blurring the line between the tangible and the metaphysical through art installations, live music and a dedicated fan based drawn to the festival’s escapism feel and non-linear relationship with its natural environment. The news comes three months after Knitting Factory Entertainment announced it was taking over booking at Pappy and Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace with Pirrone serving as the talent buyer for the famed music venue located about an hour east of Lake Perris.
“Like you, the lake knows where we belong,” a statement from the festival reads, before explaining new protocols being introduced to mitigate COVID-19. “In order to provide a safer experience, this year’s event will be scaled down to keep us together in spirit while socially distanced.”
Headlining this year’s event is The War on Drugs performing their only 2021 show along with Kamasi Washington, Toro y Moi and Japanese Breakfast. The three-day lineup will also feature music from Devendra Banhart, Andy Shauf, Tim Heidecker & Weyes Blood and many more, with stage projections from Mad Alchemy.
“It’s been a long year+ away from the Desert Daze community and we are really excited about seeing the people that make this event so special, and seeing this beautiful, multi-faceted lineup at the lake,” Pirrone said in a release.
Margolis adds, “Desert Daze has been a multi-year journey for KFE and we’re ecstatic to continue–I’m personally looking forward to getting back to work with our teams and bringing this incredible curated event to the fans again.”
Tickets, parking and camping passes will be on sale July 23 at 10am pst and start at $75 for single day tickets, and $225 for 3-show passes with payment plans available. Desert Daze capacity will be limited this year to accommodate for safety measures, and fans are encouraged to purchase passes early as the weekend is expected to sell out quickly.
