Dave Grohl is the 10th musician to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of two groups. He was inducted seven years ago as part of Nirvana. He will be inducted on Oct. 30 as part of Foo Fighters. This year’s inductions were announced on Wednesday (May 12).
Eric Clapton was the first musician to be inducted as part of two groups. He was inducted as part of The Yardbirds (1992) and Cream (1993).
Sixteen other people, including Carole King and Tina Turner this year, have been inducted both as a solo artist and as part of a group or duo (or songwriting pair), but that’s a little different.
Here’s a complete list of musicians who have been inducted as part of two groups. They are listed in chronological order.
Eric Clapton: The English guitarist was inducted as part of The Yardbirds (1992) and Cream (1993). In addition, in 2000, he was inducted for his solo career, making him the only three-time inductee in Rock Hall history.
Jimmy Page: The English guitarist was inducted as part of The Yardbirds (1992) and Led Zeppelin (1995).
David Crosby: The musician was inducted as part of The Byrds (1991) and Crosby, Stills & Nash (1997).
Stephen Stills: The multi-instrumentalist is the only musician to be inducted as part of two groups in one year (1997). He was inducted as part of Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills & Nash.
Johnny Carter: The singer was the first Black artist to be inducted as part of two groups – The Flamingos (2001) and The Dells (2004). He is also the only artist on this list who is no longer living. He died in 2009.
Sammy Strain: The singer was the second Black artist to be inducted as part of two groups — The O’Jays (2005) and Little Anthony & the Imperials (2009).
Graham Nash: The English musician was inducted as part of Crosby, Stills & Nash (1997) and The Hollies (2010).
Ronnie Wood: The English guitarist was inducted as part of The Rolling Stones (1989) and Faces (2012).
Gregg Rolie: The Hammond organ player was inducted as part of Santana (1998) and Journey (2017).
Dave Grohl: The guitarist and drummer was inducted as part of Nirvana (2014) and will be inducted in Foo Fighters (2021).
