Daft Punk: a video game at Ubisoft was planned, it unfortunately did not see the light of day

It was yesterday, Monday February 22, 2021 that Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo formalized the end of their mythical duo crystallized under the name of Daft Punk. After 27 years of collaboration, the two artists decided that it was time to hang up, no doubt at the height of their glory, and to announce the end of the group through an “Epilogue” video which has the merit of being clear. With over 15 million views in just 24 hours, their split was like a bomb with their fans and the music scene as well. It is precisely in this collective hubbub (where some mourn the departure of a group that still had a lot to tell us) that James Mielke, former developer at Q Intertainment, decided to speak. Through a Twitter post, the latter told us that a game on Daft Punk was planned in collaboration with Ubisoft. If the game was indeed “green”, it unfortunately did not succeed, for reasons that it did not see fit to share. But don’t worry, this Daft Punk game has not ended up in the trash since we learn that the ideas were subsequently taken to give birth to Lumines Electronic Symphony, a title released in 2012 on PS Vita.

It reminded me of the time I pitched the game Daft Punk Lumines to Ubisoft, who gave me the green light. I then presented the project to Daft Punk and they were interested. However, they didn’t want to use their old music, and since they were working on the Tron Legacy soundtrack at the time, they didn’t have time to create new tracks. The track would have taken place inside their DJ booth, which would have been shaped like a pyramid, and the higher the level of combos, the more excited the crowd would have been.

If the kings of electronic music did not have the right to appear in a video game which was entirely dedicated to them, know that Daft Punk, on the other hand, appeared in different titles. We obviously think of DJ Hero 2, Just Dance, Dance Central, NBA 2K, Top Spin 4 or even Guitar Hero Live and Rock Band 4.
