Vocal powerhouse Cynthia Erivo, who is just an Oscar away from an EGOT, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma, a 2011 Kennedy Center Honoree, are slated to perform at the 2021 CARE Impact Awards on Nov. 17 at 8 p.m. ET.
Presented by the humanitarian organization CARE, the CARE Impact Awards aim to celebrate “the tenacious spirit of forward-thinking humanitarian leaders in delivering innovative change around the world,” the organization shared in a statement.
Hosted by CNN analyst and SiriusXM host Laura Coates, the awards ceremony is set to honor Hillary Rodham Clinton, former U.S. Secretary of State; Carol B. Tomé, chief executive officer at UPS; Eugene Willemsen, CEO of PepsiCo, Africa, Middle East, South Asia; S. Mona Sinha, board chair of Women Moving Millions and ERA Fund for Women’s Equality; Darren Walker, Ford Foundation president; and Teri Williams, OneUnited Bank president and COO.
“The Impact Awards serve as a powerful reminder of the good that can be achieved when extraordinary individuals dedicated to making the world a better place work together to improve the human condition with a generosity of heart and spirit,” said Michelle Nunn, president and CEO of CARE USA, in a statement.
Both Erivo and Ma are multi-award winners. Erivo earned a Tony for best actress in a musical for her starring role in The Color Purple, a Grammy for best musical theater album for the cast album to that show, and a Daytime Emmy for outstanding musical performance in a daytime program for promoting The Color Purple on a daytime talk show.
In addition to his Kennedy Center Honor, Ma has won 18 Grammys and was named one of Time’s most influential people in 2020 for his longstanding work in classical music and beyond.
CARE is “dedicated to saving lives, defeating poverty, and achieving social justice by empowering women and girls,” the release adds. To learn more about the organization and to register for the free event, visit its website at care.org.
