This upcoming fall semester, Hovain Hylton — hip-hop music manager and president of management at Cinematic Music Group — will be hitting the classroom as a professor at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn. Teaching the “The Business of Music,” the eight-week course will offer students in-depth knowledge on publishing deals, business positions needed for an artist’s success, and more.
“It’s a pleasure to have Hovain as a professor for this course,” says director of programs, Alissa Levine. “The students will benefit from his industry know-how.” Students in the workforce development program will have access to Hylton’s classes, which will take place on Zoom.
“It’s an amazing opportunity to come from where I come from and to be asked to teach at such a fine institute,” Hylton tells Billboard. “To share my love for music with the young minds who are looking to learn [will be a great experience].”
Hylton has previously helmed projects for prominent New York rappers, including Cam’ron, Styles P, and Lloyd Banks, who released his newest album, The Course of the Inevitable, last June. Hylton also worked alongside Jonny Shipes at Cinematic Music Group, piecing together projects for T-Pain and Flipp Dinero, respectively.
Classes begin Monday (Aug. 23).
