Call of Duty: Vanguard is almost here, but the game’s impact on the free-to-play Call of Duty: Warzone is a little further away. Warzone will be updated for Call of Duty’s trip back to World War II — including getting a new name, Call of Duty: Warzone Pacific — on Dec. 2, Activision announced Thursday.
Developers Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software also gave fans a preview of what will be included in Season 1 of Call of Duty: Vanguard.
The start of Call of Duty’s new season will kick off the start of Warzone Pacific, which will bring the battle royale game back to the second World War. The biggest new update with the new season will be the addition of Caldera, the game’s newest map, which is set somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. The new map is supposed to be similar in size to Verdansk, Warzone’s existing map, but we won’t know the details until Raven Software begins to reveal them in late November.
Call of Duty: Warzone Pacific will also include the game’s reworked arsenal, which will feature WWII-era weapons from Vanguard, as well as Warzone’s existing weapons. The other massive new addition to battle royale is the new anti-cheat system called Ricochet, which Raven Software hopes will curb cheating in the game by introducing a kernel-level security system.
Warzone Pacific will continue to be free-to-play and support cross-play and cross-progression, just like the original Warzone. Players who own Call of Duty: Vanguard will be able to play Caldera for 24 hours exclusively before Warzone-only players get the chance to try it out.
Call of Duty: Vanguard’s first season will include tons of content for its own multiplayer on top of what’s coming to Warzone. The game will get new weapons and gear, and new zombies, as well as three additional multiplayer maps.
During a limited-time event on Nov. 30, Raven Software will celebrate the last moments of Verdansk with a special send-off event that will probably destroy the island.
Vanguard launches on Nov. 5, while its first season won’t start until nearly a month later on Dec. 2 in both Vanguard and Warzone.
