Sometimes, musicians don’t leave clear instructions about what they want their recorded legacy to look like. Not Anderson .Paak. The rapper-drummer has explicit wishes inked onto him, as evidenced by an Instagram Story this week in which he revealed an all-caps tattoo on his forearm that makes his desires crystal clear.
“When I’m gone, please don’t release any posthumous albums or songs with my name attached,” reads the tat placed just under an image of Muppets drummer Animal going wild on his kit. “Those were just demos and never intended to be heard by the public.”
The tattoo could save Anderson from becoming another act whose posthumous career rivals his living one. Among the rappers and musicians whose estates have released an endless string of “new” or previously unreleased material over the past years are Prince, Juice WRLD, Pop Smoke and Lil Peep.
.Paak needn’t worry for now, as his project with Bruno Mars, Silk Sonic, recently scored a second top 10 hit on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs with “Skate,” which debuted at No. 4 on the list dated Aug. 14. “Skate” was the followup to the duo’s debut single, “Leave the Door Open,” which ruled the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for eight weeks between May and July.
