A Revised Release Schedule
Greetings City Architects,

We wanted to provide an update on the progress of our forthcoming releases. We recognize your enthusiasm for new content and aim to be transparent about our current status.

The two Creator Packs — Modern Architecture and Urban Promenades — have been finalized by their creators. Although our ongoing efforts with the Economy Patch, Detailers Patch, and Decorations Patch reflect our dedication to enhancing the base game, we acknowledge that the Asset Editor remains a pivotal feature to fulfill our commitment to fully integrating mods in-game. To avoid diverting our attention, we’ve decided to reschedule the release of the Creator Packs to Q4. This delay will also impact the upcoming Bridges & Ports Expansion, now slated for Q2 2025. We will continue prioritizing the base game before shifting our focus to paid content. Our objective is to ensure that the community is pleased with the current state of the game, and once that goal is met, we’ll be thrilled to share these exceptional packs with you!

Hello everyone! It’s been a while since our last update, so we wanted to take this chance to share what we’re currently working on. While we don’t have a definitive timeline at the moment, we can outline our present priorities. Topping the list is support for custom assets for the Editor and the completion of the console version of Cities: Skylines II. These tasks are tackled by separate teams, enabling simultaneous progress, but for clarity’s sake, let’s break them down individually.

Asset Editor
The Asset Editor has posed more challenges than anticipated, but we are making significant headway and have been sharing iterative builds with the modding beta group to gather feedback on its functionality. While initial testing of the importing, saving, and sharing processes has been conducted, further work is required before we can roll out a public beta. Key features that need finalization include Serialization and Virtual Texturing support for custom assets. Serialization converts meshes, textures, and asset details into easily shareable files, akin to the .cok files used for saving maps. Virtual Texturing helps optimize by reducing GPU memory usage.

Once these are complete, we can finalize the asset side of the Editor and establish a release timeline. We understand your eagerness for custom assets to bring your city visions to life, and we are equally excited to support our talented asset creators.

Console
As for the console version of Cities: Skylines II, we don’t have any updates beyond our last communication. Work is ongoing, and we’ll share a revised release window once available.

Hotels & Tourism
We acknowledge your frustrations and assure you that addressing this is a top priority. We’re adjusting the likelihood of hotels appearing in commercial areas and diligently reviewing all tourism-related bug reports. We’ll provide more information once a fix is ready, similar to our approach with homelessness.

Detailer’s Patch #2
As previously mentioned, more detailing features are in development. While the Decorations Menu of patch 1.1.8f1 was just a component, we continue to work on this content and won’t disclose specifics just yet. We aim to introduce road-related decorations and a line tool for placing props and trees. Our focus for Detailer’s Patch #2 is on features rather than new assets, so while a few new items will be available, it won’t match the variety of the first installment.

Bug Fixes & Feedback
Apart from the items above, we are committed to addressing bugs and integrating your feedback wherever feasible. We prioritize bug fixes by their impact on gameplay, with crashes at the forefront. If you encounter a crash, please provide details to help us replicate the issue and implement a fix. We also monitor community discussions to address the most bothersome issues, aiming to enhance your overall experience. Your bug reports and attached saves are invaluable in narrowing down causes and testing our solutions.

Following the Economy 2.0 patch, we received varied feedback on the game’s difficulty. Some players appreciated the added challenge, while others did not. We understand that disabling achievements through game options isn’t the ideal solution for those who desire creative freedom while maintaining gameplay challenges. In the coming months, we’ll explore ways to balance fun and difficulty for our diverse player base.

Thank you for your support, detailed and constructive feedback, and for being a vibrant part of our community. Although our focus is on game development, we regularly engage in community discussions and value your input. We are dedicated to making Cities: Skylines II the best possible game and will continue working diligently to achieve that goal.
