Ariana Grande scores a first on Billboard‘s mainstream top 40 radio-based Pop Airplay chart, thanks to three of her hits.
As “POV” rises 13-10 on Pop Airplay, joining former No. 1s “Positions,” at No. 6, and “34+35,” at No. 9 (on the chart dated May 15), Grande becomes the first artist to post three concurrent top 10s in the survey’s history, which dates to 1992.
“POV” is the third radio single from Grande’s Republic Records album Positions, after the title cut led for seven weeks beginning in December and “34+35” reigned for three weeks in February.
Grande previously came within a notch of tripling up in the Pop Airplay top 10. On the Feb. 9, 2019, chart, her “Thank U, Next” ranked at No. 2, “7 Rings” blasted 21-10 and “Breathin” dipped 7-11. Timbaland likewise charted three songs in the top 11 spots for two weeks in November 2007, after Usher landed a trio in the top 11 ranks for two frames in July 2004.
Nearly a year ago, Grande was also scoring concurrent Pop Airplay hits, with “Stuck With U,” with Justin Bieber, and “Rain on Me,” with Lady Gaga. At the time, Erik Bradley, music director at chart reporters KNOU (97.1 Now!) Los Angeles and WBBM-FM (B96) Chicago, mused that the format had room for both Grande tracks. “No worries on that,” he said. “We tend to toss out the standard artist separation preferences and become more concerned with playing hits. She’s strongly on the A-list.”
“POV” is Grande’s 19th Pop Songs top 10, a run that began with “Problem” (her first of eight No. 1s) in June 2014. She boasts the most top 10s of any act in that span, ahead of Bieber (15), Taylor Swift, The Weeknd (11 each), Maroon 5 and Ed Sheeran (10 each).
