Xbox US sales plummeted by 70% – analyst

Despite Microsoft releasing several high-profile titles recently, Xbox console sales continue to face a steep decline. In November, Xbox Series X|S sales in the U.S. plummeted to a historic low for the month.

Industry analyst Mat Piscatella pointed out the stark contrast in performance:

Xbox sales plummeted by 70% year-over-year. In comparison, PlayStation 5 sales fell by 40%, while the Nintendo Switch saw only a 10% decrease.

This represents the worst November on record for Xbox in the American market, following a downward trend that has persisted for several years.

Rising prices are cited as a primary deterrent for consumers. The average cost of an Xbox in the U.S. has surged by more than 30% within a year, with high-end Series X configurations seeing price hikes of $100–$130. These financial barriers have significantly impacted purchasing decisions.

Microsoft’s broader business strategy is also being scrutinized. The company’s focus on Game Pass and the decision to release first-party titles on rival platforms, such as PlayStation, has led many to question the necessity of owning an Xbox console. Even major Game Pass additions, like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, have failed to drive hardware adoption.

According to IGN, while the entire console market is navigating challenges, the decline of Xbox is notably more severe than that of its competitors.
