Will Players Breathe Easier? Epic Reveals What Unreal Engine 5.7 Can Do

Unreal Engine 5.7 is now available to game developers. Epic has unveiled the updated release in a new video that highlights the capabilities of the tools included in the suite.

Epic points to faster procedural environment generation, streamlined tools for creating and editing trees and foliage, and Nanite Foliage — an expanded iteration of Nanite tailored for vegetation that aims to resolve level-of-detail issues with trees. For developers, this translates to more ways to modify 3D object models directly inside the UE 5.7 editor.

That raises the question: how will all of this perform on consoles and lower-end PCs?

Unreal Engine 5 has received criticism for the demanding hardware requirements of Lumen and Nanite. Throughout 2025, several UE5-based releases suffered notable graphical problems, primarily tied to performance. ARC Raiders is often cited as an example of effective optimization, though its high frame rates were achieved by disabling some of Epic’s flagship engine features.
