The Witcher author says there’s no cooperation with the games and won’t play The Witcher 4: “It’s not entertainment for me”

Sapkowski indicated that his relationship with CD Projekt Red is relatively cordial today, though it has had rocky moments. In 2019 the developer settled a legal dispute with him — under Polish copyright law, a rights holder can seek additional compensation if a licence generates far greater revenue than expected. After The Witcher 3’s success, Sapkowski pursued roughly $16 million in additional royalties.

Sapkowski did not contribute directly to The Witcher 4, but elements from Crossroads of Ravens will influence the RPG — similar to how Season of Storms informed parts of The Witcher 3.

A previous version of this story misquoted Sapkowski as saying “the contracts between me and the game people are excellent.” That was a transcription error and has been corrected. GamesRadar+ regrets the mistake.
